  • Mounting Plate: 7 Gauge 4 x 4 inch plate with 1/2 inch holes for concrete anchors (anchors not included)

Employee Guidance Railing Compliance Checklist

 

1. General OSHA Compliance

  • Railings placed in aisles/passageways to protect employees (OSHA 1910.176)
  • If used as fall protection → meets 1910.28 & 1910.29 requirements:
    • Top rail height: 42 in ± 3 in
    • Mid-rail halfway between top rail and floor
    • Must withstand 200 lb force outward/downward
  • Barriers protect from contact with machines/vehicles if applicable (1910.212)
  • Installation does not create tripping hazards (General Duty Clause)

2. ANSI Best Practices

  • Complies with ANSI A1264.1 (Safety for Walking/Working Surfaces)
  • Railings clearly separate pedestrian and equipment traffic
  • Minimum 36 in clearance for walkways (OSHA & ANSI guidance)
  • Smooth, continuous railing with no sharp edges

3. Food & Pharmaceutical Standards

  • Constructed from 304 or 316 stainless steel (corrosion-resistant)
  • Surfaces are smooth, polished (No. 4 finish or better) for cleanability
  • Welds are ground and polished; no crevices that trap debris or bacteria
  • Compatible with CIP (Clean-in-Place) or manual washdown processes

4. Installation & Safety

  • Securely anchored to floor with hygienic bases (no exposed threads)
  • Proper spacing: railings guide traffic without blocking emergency egress
  • End caps sealed to prevent water ingress
  • Adequate lighting and marking for visibility in walkways

5. Documentation

  • Material certifications (stainless steel grade, surface finish)
  • Cleaning and maintenance procedures documented
